Awami League chairman candidates won elections in 405 Union Councils while its rival Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) contenders in only 70 Union councils in the fourth phase of the Union Council polls.On the other hand, 10 Jatiya Party, 161 independent chairman candidates were elected.Due to violence and irregularities, voting in at least 51 polling stations were suspended across the country, said the Election Commission at a press conference.Over 34,000 candidates, including nearly 3,200 chairman contenders, are in the 4th phase election race. Besides, 24,000 member candidates and 7,000 contenders for the reserved seat are contesting the polls.Among the chairman candidates, some 1,700 are from 15 political parties and 1,500 are independent contestants.
