A terrifying fire broke out a Chaktai Veramarket slum and burned eight people dead while they were sleeping in their shanties in Chattogram in the wee hours of Sunday.
The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
Seven deceased were the members of two family. The fire is now under control, said Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Police said they are investigating the matter.
Jasim Uddin, Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence of Chattogram, said a fire broke out a slum in the area around 3:30 am while the inhabitants of the slum were sleeping.
“On information eight fire units rushed to the spot. They took the fire under control and recovered eight charred bodies from the spot,” he added.
