Dr Wazed’s 78th birthday today

Today is the 78th birthday of internationally reputed nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr MA Wazed Miah, reports BSS. 

On February 16 in 1942, Wazed Miah affectionately called ‘Sudha Miah’ was born in a respectable Muslim family of Laldighi Fatehpur village under Pirganj upazila in Rangpur district.

He breathed his last in Dhaka on May 9, 2009 and was buried at the family graveyard in his native village at Pirganj.

Different political and socio-cultural organisations have chalked out programmes in the capital city and Rangpur district in observance of his birthday.

The programmes include placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed Miah, offering Fateha, milad mehfils and special munajats, distribution of food among the poor and distressed people and memorial discussions.

A number of organisations have chalked out elaborate daylong programmes to celebrate the birthday of Dr Wazed in a befitting manner at Laldighee Fatehpur village as well as in Rangpur city.

General Secretary of Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad (DWSS) Saiful Islam Jahangir told BSS that the organisation arranged a two-day programme to mark the day on February 15 and 16.

Drawing competitions, descent hand writing, poem recitation and patriotic song for the children and adolescents were arranged at 3 pm on the Town Hall premises in Rangpur city today.

On February 16 in the morning, leaders of the DWSS placed wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed Miah, arrange Ziarat and offer Fateha in his birthplace of Laldighee Fatehpur village under Pirganj upazila in the district.

Milad and doa mahfils will be arranged and special munajats will be offered at different mosques after Asr prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Dr Wazed and well-being of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed Putul and their other family members.

A discussion on the life and deeds of the nuclear scientist Dr Wazed will be arranged at the Town Hall auditorium at 6.30 pm today and prizes, crests and certificates will be distributed among winners of different competitions.

Childhood friends, classmates and family members of Dr Wazed, academics, intellectuals and civil society members will take part in the discussion on his life, deed, personality, excellent character, dozens of memories, unparallel talent and human qualities.

Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari will attend the discussion as the chief guest with President of DWSS and noted educationist professor Dr Hamidul Haque Khondker in the chair.

Similarly, Dr Wazed Foundation, Begum Rokeya University, district and Pirganj upazila units of AL and its associate bodies and family of Dr Wazed will celebrate the 78th birthday of the nuclear scientist in a befitting manner.

Bangabandhu Gabeshana Parishad will arrange a discussion, milad mahfil, and doa at its Purana Paltan office in Dhaka at 4pm today.
