No need to compromise while conducting polls, CEC to ROs

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has directed the Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) not to compromise with any irregularities while they will conduct the upazila polls.

The CEC as a chief guest gave the direction on Thursday at a programme held at Nirbachan Bhaban Auditorium in the capital.

He urged the officials to conduct the polls fairly on the basis of law only.

“A Returning Officer can suggest to stop the upazila parishad polls utterly. The Election Commission can stop the election after finding logic behind their recommendations,” the CEC said.

Nurul Huda also expressed his confidence on the officials and said they will able to conduct the polls successfully.

Among others, Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukdar, Rafiqul Islam, Kabital Khanom and Shahadat Hossen Chowdhury were present as special guests respectively.

The upazila polls will be held in five phases across the country. The first polls will be held on March 10, according to the election schedule.
