The High Court (HC) today ordered authorities concerned to conduct a survey to determine the level of bacteria, insecticide and lead in cow milk, curd and cow fodder across the country.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice K. M. Hafizul Alam passed the order acting suo moto, reports BSS.
The court asked food, fisheries and livestock, agriculture and cabinet secretaries, chairman and all the members of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, Central Food Safety Management Coordination Committee and chairman of BSTI to submit the survey report before it by next 15 days.
The court also issued a rule, asking the officials to reply in four weeks as to why the court shall not declare illegal their ‘inaction’ in preventing the contamination in milk-made food. It also asked why the court shall not pass order, awarding maximum sentence to the culprits.
The High Court set March 3 for further hearing in this regard.
The court in its observation said food contamination is a huge corruption, which is damaging people’s kidney, liver and even causing diseases like cancer.
