Journo arrested over sexual harassment in Dhaka

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a journalist in a case filed for sexual harassment of his female colleague in the capital on Sunday night.

The arrestee is MM Sekandar Miah, Chief Reporter of Ekushey Television (ETV), a private satellite television channel of Bangladesh.

Sekandar was arrested from his residence at Banasri and later handed over to Hatirjheel Police Station.

Fazlul Haque, officer-in-charge of Hatirjheel Police Station, said a female journalist filed a case against him and he was shown arrested in that case.

According to the case statement, Sekandar harassed her sexually after calling her to a fast-food shop on January 27. He also gave death threat to her not to disclose the matter to someone.

Later she submitted a written complaint against him to Managing Director of ETV. After knowing the matter, Sekandar made a vulgar remark to her after calling her into a room.

However, Sekandar’s wife Nilufer Yasmeen told journalists that her husband is being trapped in a planned way.
