The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday rejected the nomination form of the candidate of Jatiya Party (JaPa) musician Shafin Ahmed for Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral by-polls due to loan defaulting.
Shafin is a loan defaulter of Brac bank, said DNCC returning officer Md Abul Quashem.
Besides, EC declared fiver other candidates valid after scrutinizing their nomination forms.
They are former BGMEA president and Awami League nominated candidate Atiqul Islam, Nationalist Democratic Movement’s (NDM) Bobby Hajjaj, National People’s Party’s (NPP) Anisur Rahman Dewan, PDP’s Shahin Khan, and independent candidate Abdur Rahim.
Earlier on Wednesday, six candidates including Shafin submitted their nomination forms to EC.
The election to the DNCC will be held on February 28, according to the election schedule.
