Wife Deepa gets death for killing lawyer Babu Sona

A Rangpur court has sentenced Snigdha Sarker Deepa to death in a sensational murder case of her husband Rathish Chandra Bhowmik.

Rangpur Senior District and Sessions Judge ABM Nizamul Haque passed the order in presence of her at 12:45pm on Tuesday.

Earlier on September 13, Sub Inspector Al Amin, also the investigation officer in the case, pressed the charges accusing Deepa, her lover and colleague Kamrul Islam before the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Arifa Yesmeen.

Kamrul reportedly committed suicide inside the Rangpur Central Jail by hanging himself on November 10 last year.

Later he was rushed to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

According to the case statement, Deepa had extramarital affairs with her colleague Kamrul Islam, an assistant teacher of Tajhat High School, and they strangled Babu Sona, also an Awami League leader, on March 29, 2018 at his Tajhat residence in Rangpur city.

Deepa and Kamrul kept the body inside an almirah and later Kamrul took the body to an under-construction building site owned by his brother Khademul Islam at Tajhat Mollapara by a van and buried it on March 30 last year.

On April 3, 2018, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) picked up Deepa, an assistant teacher of Tajhat High School, for interrogation over the missing of her husband.

After getting information from her, RAB recovered Babu Sona’s decomposed body from the under-construction building site the same day.

Babu Sona, public prosecutor at the Special Judge’s Court in Rangpur, represented the state in the cases over the killings of Japanese national Kunio Hoshi and Rahmat Ali, a caretaker of a shrine.
