Sylhet Sixers still stay on course in BPL

Another good day for Sylhet Sixers as they recorded a comprehensive 58-run victory over Khulna Titans in the 31st match of Bangladesh Premier League T20 held on Saturday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

With this win, Sylhet Sixers secured eight points from four matches while Khulna Titans remained at their previous credit of four points playing the same number of matches, reports BSS.

Batting first after winning the toss Sylhet Sixers posted a massive total of 195 for 4 from their stipulated 20 overs.

The two openers – Afif Hossain and Liton Das — gave Sylhet a flying start contributing 71 runs for the opening stand.

The left handed batting all-rounder Afif smashed 37-ball off 49 runs hitting five boundaries and two over boundaries while Liton Das hammered 22- ball off 34-run with the help of three boundaries and two over boundaries before both the batsmen were accounted by Taijul Islam.

Later Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Nazaw shared an unbeaten 89-run for the fifth wicket stand helped Sylhet to set a massive target for Khulna.

The hard-hitting batsman Sabbir blazed 29-ball off 44 runs cracking four boundaries and two over boundaries while Nawaz smashed 21-ball off 39-run that studded with three boundaries and two over boundaries.

Spinner Taijul Islam was the pick of Khulna’s bowlers as he claimed three Sylhet’s wickets conceding 30 runs.

Chasing a massive winning target of 196 runs set by Sylhet, Khulna Titans founds he chase stiff and eventually dismissed at 137 in 18.1 overs.

Opener Junaid Siddique was the first Khulna’s batsman to go after scoring 11-ball off 20 runs hitting three boundaries off Taskin Ahmed delivery while Al-Amin was trapped leg before wicket by Sohail Tanvir.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto also lasted a little as he fell to Alok Kapali while Nabil Samad joined the party removing Brendon Taylor, leaving Khulna in a deep trouble. Taylor top scored with 23-ball off 34 runs with the help of three boundaries and one over boundary.

Ariful Haque (24) failed to get enough support to take it deep as he perished to Nabil Samad ending all hope to Rangpur.

Nabil Samad was the pick of Sylhet bowler as he grabbed three Khulna’s wickets conceding 20 runs while pacer Taskin Ahmed bagged two wickets giving away six runs.

Mohammad Nawaz of Sylhet Sixers was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance.

After the match Nawaz said: “I am feeling very good. I was waiting for my opportunity and I am glad that I have performed when opportunity came. We did mistakes in our previous games but now team is performing really well. Hopefully, we will win last two matches and we will qualify for the next stage.”

Losing Khulna Titans skipper Mahmudullah said: “It’s been a disappointing season for me as well as my team. We have last two games, hopefully, we can win those games. Brendan has been batting really well. Taijul has been our best performer with the ball.
