BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the decision on DNCC by-polls will be taken after discussing the matter with the party’s acting party chief Tarique Rahman, who is in a self-imposed exile in London for a decade.
Fakhrul on Thursday said this while briefing to the journalists after paying tributes to BNP chief’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko on his fourth death anniversary by placing wreaths at his graveyard at Banani in the capital.
Fakhrul said, a meeting of the party’s standing committee members was also held in today’s evening to take the decision on DNCC by-polls.
Among others, BNP chairperson adviser Professor Doctor Abdul Quddus, Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Abdul Latif, Joint Secretary General Harunur Rashid, executive members Tabith Awwal, Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papia were present during this time.
It is mentionable that, the by-election to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral post will be held on February 28.
Elections to the councillor and reserved councillor posts in the newly extended 36 wards in DNCC and 18 wards under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will be held on the same day.
As per the schedule, the last date of submission of nomination papers is January 30 next and the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on February 2. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is February 9.
The mayoral post of the DNCC was vacant since DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq died on November 30 in 2017.
