Ershad takes oath

The chairman of Jatiya Party (JaPa) Hussain Muhammad Ershad has taken oath as a Member of the Parliament.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury administered the oath ceremony at the Jatiya Sangsad at 12pm on Sunday. Some leaders of JaPa including its co-chairman GM Kader were present at this time. 

Earlier, on Thursday, 289 MPs-elect took oaths while Ershad didn’t take oath due to his illness.

However, seven MPs-elect from BNP and Gono Forum didn’t take oaths till now as they rejected the 11th parliamentary elections held on December 30.  

According to the polls results, Awami League bagged 259 seats, HM Ershad- led Jatiya Party secured 20 seats while BNP got just five seats.

Workers Party bagged three seats while Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal two seats, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh two seats and Tariqat Federation one seat.

Gono Forum bagged two seats while Manju-led Jatiya Party (JP) one seat and independent candidates got three seats.
