A man was killed and more than three hundred people were injured in a clash between two factions of Tabligh Jamaat over the arrangement of Biswas Ijtema in Tongi on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Ismail Mondol, 65, hailing from Rampal union of Munshiganj.
Locals said, the two groups of Tabligh Jamaat locked into clash when the supporters of Mawlana Saad were trying to come to the Ijtema Maidan area over the arrangement of Biswas Ijtema. At that time, the supporters of Mawlana Jubayer along with sticks and home-made arms attacked on them.
Three hundred people of both groups were injured and sent them to Tongi Hospital. Later some of them with serious injuries were referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
The transport movement was suspended on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near the Ijtema Maidan area temporarily due to the clash.
Kamal Hossain, In-charge of Tongi East Police Station, confirmed the matter to Jago News but he didn’t exact number of the injuries in the clash.
