Bangladesh opt to bat first in Dhaka Test

Bangladesh won the important toss and decided to bat first against visiting West Indies in the second and final Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur on Friday.

For the first time in their cricket history, Bangladesh has gone into a Test match without a fast bowler.

Their all-spin attack will be pleased that they will be bowling last, reports BSS.

Bangladesh left out Mustafizur Rahman – who only bowled four overs in the first Test in Chattogram – and brought in Liton Das as wicketkeeper to enable Mushfiqur Rahim, who is nursing a finger injury, to play as a specialist batsman. Shadman Islam, meanwhile, makes his Test debut at the top of the order in place of Imrul Kayes, who is out with a shoulder injury.

West Indies were forced to make one change, replacing the suspended Shannon Gabriel with Shermon Lewis, a fast bowler who made his Test debut against India last month.

Squads: Bangladesh-Soumya Sarkar, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Mohammad Mithun, Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah, Liton Das, Mehidy Hasan, Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan.

West Indies- Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Kieran Powell, Shai Hope, Sunil Ambris, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Shane Dowrich (wk), Devendra Bishoo, Kemar Roach, Jomel Warrican, Shermon Lewis.
