Writ challenges ECs appointment legality

A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Monday challenging the legality of the appointment of the five-member Election Commission led by KM Nurul Huda.

The writ also sought to cancel the gazette notification issued on the appointment of them.

Lawyer Delwar Hossain filed the petition with concerned department of the HC.

Chief Election Commissioner and four election commissioners, law secretary and election commission secretary were made the respondents to the petition.

Earlier on November 25, Supreme Court lawyer Younus Ali Akhand filed a writ petition filed with the High Court (HC) seeking stay on the national polls schedule.

The petitioner also sought the issuance of a rule to declare the schedule as illegal as it was announced without dissolving the national parliament as well as a stay on the election procedure until the issue is settled.
