Grand alliance candidates list will be disclosed by two days: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the list of grand alliance candidates would be announced by next two days, hinting the ruling party could retain 230 seats leaving the rest 70 to the other coalition partners to test their popularity.

“We have discussed today seat sharing issue and it will be finalized by later this evening,” he told newsmen emerging from separate meetings with several grand alliance partners at Awami League’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office, reports BSS.

He added: “The list (of candidates) will be announced tomorrow or by the day after tomorrow.”

Quader said a series of meetings were held among the partners of the 14-party alliance, Jatiya Party and other ruling party allies while it was decided that the partners of the grand alliance beyond Awami League would given 65 to 70 seats.

Asked for comments about the stake of ex-president HM Ershad’s Jatiya party in the seat sharing process, he said it was not decided yet.

Jatiya Party Secretary General Ruhul Amin Howlader said the party made a demand pointing out the constituencies from where their candidates wanted to contest.

“As a matter of fact we want to pursue the right track to reach the goal. Emotion has no room here,” Hawladar said.

The Awami League general secretary earlier held meetings with Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASOD) led by its President Hasanul Haq Inu and General Secretary Shirin Akhter, Workers Party led by its President Rashed Khan Menon and Jatiya Party led by Hawladar.

The other members of the Jatiya Party who joined the meeting were Anisul Islam Mahmud, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu and Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu.
