Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan said it was the total team effort that helped his side to earn a magnificent victory over visiting West Indies in the first Test.
He was speaking at a post match presentation ceremony at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattrogram on Saturday. Bangladesh beat West Indies by 64 runs in the first Test to take 1-0 lead in the two-match series, BSS reported.
He also praised the performance of debutant Nayeem Taijul, who have the capability to pick up wickets.
“It was a team effort, the contribution from Taijul and Nayeem with the bat in the first innings was tremendous. Mominul batted brilliantly. Small partnerships like 20-30 runs were vital on this wicket and I think we won those small moments. I always feel that whenever I play, I want to contribute to the team in whatever way I can. Few more years to come and many more successes, hopefully,” said the Bangladesh skipper.
On the other hand, West Indies skipper Braithwaite said It was a tough loss for them and at the same time he also praised the performance of Tigers.
He said his bowlers did a good job but batsmen failed to make partnership in the tough pitch that coasted them.
“We gave 30-40 runs too much in the first innings with the ball … it was a tough pitch to bat on, we were in India and obviously it was a little similar. But, we didn’t get partnerships early on and lost wickets consistently. They played very well (Dowrich and Hetmyer), just unfortunate that they couldn’t carry on. We can take a lot of positives from this game,” he added.
The Caribbean skipper said it was a huge loss for them as they would miss the service of Gabriel in the second Test but at the same time they would try to overcome it.
