BNP leader Rafiqul Islam jailed for 3 years

A Dhaka court has sentenced BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah to three years in jail for not submitting his wealth statement to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). 

Judge Dr. Sheikh Golam Mahabub of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-6 on Tuesday passed the order in absence of him on Tuesday. 

The court also fined the BNP leader Tk 50,000 and issued arrest warrant against him.

Rafiqul’s lawyer Hannan Bhuiyan and ACC’s court inspector Ashiqur Rahman confirmed the matter to Jago News.

On April 7, 2001, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) gave a notice to then Hosing and Public World Minister Rafiqul Islam to submit his wealth statement by 45 days.

On September, 2004, ACC officer Liakot Hossain filed a case against the BNP leader as he didn’t submit his wealth statement within that time.
