BNP, police clash at Naya Paltan

The leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) locked in a clash with police in the capital on Wednesday.

They set fire to a police pickup van during the clash that took place following the gathering on the road of Naya Paltan to collect nomination forms around 12:45pm.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Election Commission (EC) asked the law enforcement agencies to remain alert so that none can carry out showdown at the time of collecting and submitting nomination papers for the 11th parliamentary election.

On November 11, Jatiya Oikyafront, an alliance of the BNP and several other parties, decided to join the upcoming 11th general election.

On November 12, BNP began selling its nomination papers to aspirants at the party’s political office Naya Paltan.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on December 2 while the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is December 9 next. The national polls will be held on December 30, according to election schedule.
