Bangladesh play 1-1 draw with Nepal in 2020 Olympic Qualifiers

Bangladesh Olympic women’s football team completed their gruesome campaign in the FIFA Olympic Women’s Football Tournament 2020 Qualifiers Round -1 as they played out to a 1-1 goal draw with Nepal in their last game of Group C match held in Yangon on Tuesday, BSS reported.

In the day’s match, Niru Thapa put Nepal ahead early in the 17th minute while Akhi Khatun restored the parity for Bangladesh in the 90+2 minute of the match.

The match was just a part of the formalities as two defeats have already knocked the team off the tournament race.

The Bangladesh women’s team is expected to return home tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon.

After the match, team’s coach Choton, once again was full of admiration for his young team and players.

“We recovered physically and emotionally very well after the game with India. We prepared professionally for the Nepal game and our plan worked very well. I was extremely pleased that Aki scored from our corner as we spend a lot of time in our preparation on set plays,” said Choton.

The young Bangladeshi team continued to reach milestones of immense proportion. In two weeks, the team and players have created and reached two historical landmarks for Women’s Football.

Aki Khatun was proud of her goal and was excited for everyone that they finished the tournament on a high note. She mentioned her desire to continue and learn and feels that this level of International competition is invaluable to her and the other young players.
