Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP’s demand for deferral of the election for the sake of foreign tourists is illogical and unrealistic, BSS reported.
“BNP’s demand for polls deferment due to foreign tourists is illogical and unrealistic,” he told journalists at a press conference at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office this noon.
Referring to the constitutional obligation, Quader said, “The Jatiya Sangsad polls will be held as per the constitution. It will not be rescheduled for the sake of foreigners.”
He criticised the BNP for what he said complaining to its foreign friends over parliamentary polls slated for December 30.
“If BNP tries to launch any agitation for their unrealistic demands, the people will resist it,” he added.
Asked about party nomination, the AL general secretary said anybody can seek nomination but the party chief would decide who will be the suitable candidates.
“The survey reports of the candidates are now being evaluated. It will take 4-5 days to finalize the list,” Quader mentioned.
He said AL presidium members Ramesh Chandra Sen, Dr Abdur Razzak and Colonel (retd) Faruk Khan were selected as temporary members of the AL Parliamentary Nomination Board (ALPNB) as three board members Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Syed Ashraful Islam and Dr Alauddin Ahmed are sick.
AL organizing secretary Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury, AKM Enamul Haque Shameem and Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel, and cultural secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, among others, were present.
