Eight members of a family were burnt to death in a fire originated from an electric short circuit at Aramnagar area in Joypurhat on Wednesday night.
The deceased were identified as Momena Begum, 60, wife of Dulal Hossain, her daughters Bristy, 14, Hasi, 15, Khushi, son Momin Ahmmed, 35, his wife Porina Begum, 32 and one-and-a-half-year-old son Nur.
According to police and fire service source, a fire which originated from an electric short circuit, broke out the house when Momena Begum was cooking food in a rice cooker. Three members of the family died on the spot and five others died on the way to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Sirajul Islam, Inspector of Joypurhat Fire Service, said on information two units of service rushed to spot and doused the fire.
