Oikyafront’s polls-time govt proposal rejected

The ruling Awami league has rejected the proposal of polls time government given by Dr. Kamal Hossain led-Jatiya Oikyafront.  

The dialogue on upcoming national election between Awami League and Okiyafront was held at Ganabhaban on Wednesday.  

Oikyafront leaders submitted a hand-written proposal to Awami League but the proposal was rejected.  

Responding to the Oikyafront proposal, Awami League ledaers said their proposal was unconstitutional.  

The dialogue started around 11am and ended around 2pm.

The members of Oikyafront’s delegation were: Dr Kamal Hossain, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rab, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Standing Committee members Khandkaker Mosharraf Hossain and Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Mostafa MohsinMontu, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, SM Akram, Abdul Malek Ratan and Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed.

On the other side, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun were present.

The first dialogue between Awami League and Oikyafront was held on November 1.

Oikyafront, a new political alliance, was formed on October 13.

The alliance’s demands include: the dissolution of parliament; election observing by a non-partisan government; the release of political prisoners, including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia; and the withdrawal of “false cases” against opposition activists.
