HC bars Jugantor, Jamuna to publish false news against PRAN-RFL

The High Court has barred Daily Jugantor and private television channel Jamuna to publish or air false and fabricated news against PRAN-RFL group.

A bench of Justice Mamnun Rahman and Ashis Ranjan Das on Sunday issued the order.

Earlier September 27, a Dhaka court served a show-cause notice to Jamuna TV and Daily Jugantor to reply within 15 days that why they wouldn’t stop to publish and air news with ‘false’ and ‘fabricated’ information against PRAN-RFL Group.

On September 25, PRAN-RFL Group, filed two separate defamation cases against Daily Jugantor and television channel Jamuna TV seeking Tk 2000 crore compensation for publishing and airing news with ‘false’ and ‘fabricated’ information against of its two sister concerns.

According to the case, Jamuna TV and Jugantor published and aired news with ‘false’ and ‘fabricated’ information against PRAN-RFL group that destroy reputation and make a loss of Tk 2000 crore.

Prior to this, mobile operators Grameen Phone, Robi and National Board of Revenue (NBR) filed more three cases with Dhaka Joint district judge court against Jamuna TV and Daily Jugantor in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.
