Decision on election schedule Nov 4: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda today said the decision on finalizing the schedule for the forthcoming parliamentary elections will be taken at a meeting on November 4 (Sunday), according to BSS.

“There was no discussion on polls schedule with the President. The decision will be taken after holding a meeting of the Election Commission on November 4,” he told reporters emerging from Bangabhaban.

Earlier, a six-member delegation led by CEC had a meeting with President Abdul Hamid.

About the dialogue between political parties, Nurul Huda said, “The ongoing dialogue will have no impact on the planning of the commission for holding the upcoming 11th parliamentary elections. The EC has all out preparations.”

He said the President was informed about the all out preparations including the voter lists, voting centers of the polls and he expressed his satisfaction over the polls preparations.

To another query, the CEC said, “The election will be held as per the constitution. We have confidence and also believe that all political parties will take part in the polls.”

About the BNP’s constitution, Nurul Huda said the directive of the High Court has reached at the commission. The commission will take decision to this end after a meeting, he added.

Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam, Brigadier General (retd) Shahdat Hossain Chowdhury and EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed were present.
