Two children among the five people injured in a Amana Bazar of Hathazari gas line leakage incident died early today at Burn and Plastic Surgery ward of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), reports BSS.
A one-year-old child, Tanim, and Razia Akter, 11, succumbed to their burn injuries on early Thursday, confirmed Dr Narayan Dhar, assistant registrar at the burn unit of CMCH.
Five people, including three children were injured in an explosion by gas leakage incident at a rented house at Amana Bazar area under Hathazari upazila on the district last night.
Tanim’s mother Sonia Akhter, 26, her one-year-old daughter Mim Akther, and their neighbour Rubi Akhter, 16, are getting treatment in hospital, said Assistant Sub-inspector Ala Uddin Talukder of CMCH police outpost.
The injured are undergoing treatment at CMCH’s Burn and Plastic Surgery unit with 30 percent burning of their bodies, he said.
Police said the explosion occurred due to leakage in gas line of the rented house of one Anisur Rahman, in a three-storey building on Khoshal Shah Road at Aman Bazar area of Hathazari upazila last night.
Superintendent of Chattogram Police Nur-e-Alam Mina told BSS that Soni’s husband Anisur Rahman, who has been running a fast food shop in the area for some 15 years, rented the house jointly with another family yesterday. When they lit a match in the kitchen, an explosion occurred due to leakage of gas, he added.
