EC cancels Jamaat’s registration

The Election Commission (EC) on Monday canceled the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami in line with a High Court verdict.

The EC has made the move following a High Court verdict that declared Jamaat-e-Islami’s registration “illegal” on writ petition, reports BSS.

In a gazette published today, the EC canceled Jamaat’s registration as per “the sub clause (4) of Article 90H of Representation of the People Order, 1972 (as amended up to date)”.

In August 2013, the High Court declared illegal the registration of Jamaat with the EC.
