Khasru denied bail, sent to jail

A Chattogram court has rejected the bail petition of BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Choudhury and sent him to jail in a case filed under the ICT Act and Special Power Act.

Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha passed the order on Sunday after a bail petition hearing.

On August 4, Jakaria Dastagir, general secretary of Chittagong Metropolitan unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), filed the case accusing Amir Khasru of attempting to create anarchy in the country.

The case was filed with Chittagong Kotwali Police Station under Section 57 (2) of Information and Communication Technology Act and Section 15 (3) of Special Power Act.

In the case statement, the plaintiff said Amir Khasru was hatching a conspiracy to make the country unstable and instigate anarchy by carrying out subversive activities as he was heard giving instruction through an electronic device in this regard.

The High Court granted the BNP leader six weeks of bail after the case was filed. He appeared before the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court on Sunday to seek a bail extension on Aug 7.

Judge Mridha then extended the bail to Oct 21, said Khosru’s lawyer Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan.
