Yunus receives ‘New Renaissance’ award

Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus has received an international award- ‘Nuovo Rinascimento’ meaning ‘new renaissance’ for his efforts to propagate the humanistic philosophy through social business and micro-credit, from Italian Buddhist School Soka Gakkai of Italy.

The award has been given at Soka Gakkai International conference held in Ikeda Cultural Centre for Peace in Milan city on October 1, where he addressed as the chief guest, said a press release from Yunus Center.

Over 750 people attended the ceremony which was organized by Soka Gakkai International, which is a community-based Buddhist organization that promotes peace, culture and education centered on respect for the dignity of life. 

SGI members uphold the humanistic philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism in 192 countries and territories around the world.

The ceremony was followed by a press conference around the book of Professor Yunus’s “A World of Three Zeros” which highlights his three key philosophies of Zero Unemployment, Zero Poverty and Zero Net Carbon Emissions.
