2 killed in Rangpur road accident

Two pedestrians, including a woman, were killed and 10 passengers of two buses injured in a road accident at Central Bus Terminal point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in the city on Friday, police said, reports BSS.

“The accident occurred when a Rangpur-bound passenger bus from Gaibandha hit two pedestrians after its driver lost control over the steering and subsequently hit another passenger bus there at 12:30 this noon,” said Additional Superintend of Police (Circle A) Saifur Rahman Saif.

The two pedestrians were killed on the spot and 10 passengers of the ill-fated buses injured in the accident when one of the buses was damaged badly damaged while another partially.

“The deceased pedestrians were identified as Hasina begum, 55, wife of Golam Mostafa of village Afzalpur under Mithapukur upazila and Dulal Chandra, 45, son of Jugesh Chandra of Barobari Hindu Para in the city of Rangpur district,” the ASP said.

Police and Fire Service and Civil Defense personnel rushed to the spot, salvaged both buses, rescued injured persons and sent them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Police seized both the ill-fated buses though the drivers and helpers managed to escape from the scene.

Additional Superintend of Police (Administration and Crime) Abu Maruf Hossain with other police officials visited the spot.

A case was filed in this connection with Rangpur Kotwali police station.
