BNP holds token hunger-strike for Khaleda’s release

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday organized a two-hour long token hunger strike in the capital demanding release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia and to ensure her better treatment.

The strike began at 10am and continued till 12am.

Several hundred leaders and activists attended the token hunger strike in front of Institute of Engineers’ Bangladesh.

BNP leaders broke the hunger-strike by drinking water given to them by Dhaka University’s former vice-chancellor professor Emajuddin Ahmed.

BNP chief landed in jail on February 8 after a court sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage graft case.

She is now facing 37 more cases. She has secured bail in all but three cases - two in Comilla and one in Dhaka.
