2 killed over land dispute in Cumilla

At least two people were killed and 20 others injured on Saturday in a clash over land dispute between two groups of villagers in Sidlai area of Brhambanrpara upazila under Cumilla district.

The deceased were identified as Khorshed Alam, son of late Wadud Member and Shanu Mia, son of late Abdus Salam, residents of Sidlai village.

According to police and locals, there was a longstanding dispute going on over land for 40-year between two groups of supporters of US expatiate Shamsul Haque and Liton.

Centering the dispute, the supporters of both sides locked in a clash with locally made weapons on early Saturday while two people were killed and at least 20 others injured.

Confirming the news, Syed Shahjahan, officer-in-charge of Brahmanpara police station said that the incident took place in Sidlai village of Brahmanpara upazila in the wee hours of Saturday. 

Khorshed Alam was killed on the spot and Shanu Mia were taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead. Injured were taken to local hospital and clinic, he said.

Additional police were deployed in the village to bring the situation under control, he added.
