Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the Road Transport Bill 2018 will be placed in the next parliament session, reports BSS.
“The cabinet has already approved the draft law and now it will be placed in the next session of the parliament. But, the proposed act will be placed before the parliamentary standing committee prior to placing it in parliament,” he said while addressing a view-exchange meeting at his ministry here.
Quader exchanged views with the representatives of civil society, transport owners, labours and the law enforcing agencies aiming to bring discipline on roads and highways to reduce accidents.
He said the members of the standing committee will discuss the bill with stakeholders and it will also be discussed in the parliament.
About the recent student movement, the Road and Transport Minister said: “I salute the students who created movement demanding safe road. The new law got the light for their movement”.
“I gave directives to shut down the factories of rickshaw and easybikes. If we can ban the vehicles, the road accidents will reduce,” Quader said. Columnist Syed Abul Maksud also spoke at the meeting.
