Fakhrul for installing CCTV cameras at polling stations

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday urged Election Commission to set up CCTV cameras at some 44,000 polling centres across the country instead of the electronic voting machine (EVM) for the upcoming general elections likely to be held in December.

He said this while talking to journalists at a press conference held at party’s chairperson political office in the capital’s Ghulsan.

The Election Commission is planning to buy electronic voting machine (EVM) which estimated cost Tk 4000 crore.

Fakhrul demanded election commission should set up the modern printing press to protect vote rigging, and can also arrange some workshop to make elections commission officials skilful.

BNP’s standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossen, Lt Gen (Rtd) Mahbubur Rahman, Dr Abdul Moin Khan and Amir Khosru Mahmud attended the press conference, among others.
