IPL: 4 arrested for betting in SRH-KXIP match

Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a betting syndicate during a match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians with the arrest of a restaurant owner and a class 12 student.Rachit Gupta (22), who runs a restaurant in Rajouri Garden, and Vikas, a Class 12 student, were arrested after police received information about betting during the match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians yesterday and conducted a raid. ‘We received information from constable Ansar that there will be betting on IPL 2016 cricket match and the betting syndicate is operational from a house in Punjabi building, Roshnara Road, Delhi,’ DCP (North) Madhur Verma said. He said a team headed by inspector Shalender Tomar conducted a raid and arrested the duo from the building. According to police, Gupta wanted to open a chain of restaurants in the capital for which he indulged in cricket betting with Vikas. The racket had bet about Rs 5 lakh on the match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians. Police have recovered an LCD TV, mobile phones, three chargers and a notebook from their possession.Four Held for Betting in SRH vs KXIP MatchFour persons, who allegedly engaged in online betting during the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab, have been arrested. Harshad (42), Shamsu (45), Ifsul Rehman (34) and Mohammed Rasheed (31), all businessmen, were arrested last night from a rented building in Kozhikode, police said. Police have seized six mobile phones, computers and Rs 5.02 lakh from them. The raid on the premises was conducted following information received by North Assistant commisisoner, K Ashraf. A team led by Nadakavu Circle Inspector Moosa Vallikkadan and Sub Inspector G Gopakumar made the arrest, police told PTI. A case under provisions of the Kerala Gaming Act has been registered against them. They were later released on bail. The modus operandi was that they would log in to an All Indian betting site as soon as the IPL matches commenced and start betting, police added. In yesterday’s match at Hyderabad, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Kings XI Punjab by five wickets.
