Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Friday said BNP has to join the forthcoming general election to be conducted by Election Commission (EC) keeping the incumbent government in office as there would be no caretaker administration during the polls, reports BSS.
“No caretaker government would come and the election would be conducted by EC as per the constitution. So, BNP has to join the polls under the current government,” he said.
Tofail was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organised by Awami League marking the National Mourning Day at Guli High School in Dhania Union of Bhola Sadar Upazila.
If BNP does not join polls this time, the party will have no existence, he said.
Now the party leaders are realizing that they would not get any positive result by carrying out anarchy across the country, he added. Tofail urged the people to cast their votes for the symbol ‘boat’ as there is no alternative to the government under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said a total of Taka 590 crore would be allocated for those affected by river erosion at Dhania and Shibpur union.
Dhania union AL President Harun or Rashid presided over the programme while Bhola Sadar upazila Chairman M Mosharef Hossain, Bhola Sadar upazila AL General Secretary Nazrul Islam Goldar and Dhania Union Chairman Emdad Hossain Kabir also spoke, among others.
