BNP-nominated candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been elected mayor in the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) polls after re-polling in two centres on Saturday, reports BSS.
He bagged 92,588 votes while his nearest contestant Awami League nominated candidate Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran got 86,392 votes, according to unofficial results.
After the counting of votes at the two centres, Returning Officer Md Alimuzzaman declared Ariful as the winner.
The SCC election was held on July 30 last.
