Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated the Badda U-loop (north U-loop) under the Hatirjheel integrated development project which was expected to ease traffic movement.
After the inauguration, the prime minister toured the U-loop in the vehicle carrying her.
This U-loop will ease vehicular movement from Pragati Sarani, Aftab Nagar and Rampura to Malibagh area.
As part of the Hatirjheel integrated development project, there were plans to build two U-loops in Rampura and Badda areas to free passengers from the nagging traffic gridlock.
The U-loop in Rampura was opened on June 25, 2016.
The Badda U-loop will contribute immensely in easing traffic congestion the way the Rampura U-loop had done, project officials said.
According to the officials, the Badda U-loop, which cost approximately Tk 33 crore, was 458.50 metres long and 10 metres wide.
With the inauguration of the Badda U-loop, the roads from Merul Badda to Kuril were now free from U‑turns.
Besides, vehicles bound for Rampura, Banasree or Aftabnagar could change lanes easily.
