Three suspected drug traders were killed in a shootout with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the city’s Khulshi area early Thursday, reports BSS.
Two of the deceased were identified as Jakir Hossain, 30, and Dalim Sheikh, 28, hailed from Morelganj area under Bagerhat district while the identity of another could not be known immediately.
The gunfight took place at a check-post in Khulshi area when RAB members stopped a city-bound private car coming from Comilla around 3.30am, getting information that drugs were being carried in the car, RAB Assistant Director (media wing) Mimtanur Rahman said.
“The drug traders opened fire on RAB members when the elite force asked the private car to stop, forcing the law enforcers to fire back in self-defense,” he added.
Three bullet-hit bodies were recovered from the spot and taken to a city hospital.
Around 120 kg of ganja, two firearms and bullets were seized from the spot, Mimtanur said.
