No legal bar in holding Kurigram-3 by-polls

The High Court (HC) today scrapped a petition seeking stay on holding the Kurigram-3 by-polls.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order, vehemently rejecting the writ filed in this regard, reports BSS.

SM Mostafizur Rahman, an inhabitant of Ramna union under Chilmari Upazila of Kurigram filed the writ petition on July 18, saying in spite of being a Kurigram-4 constituency voter earlier, as per the recent gazette of the EC, he has been asked to vote in the Kurigram-3 by-polls as his union has been included in the constituency.

Awami League candidate MA Matin and Jatiya Party candidate Dr Akkas Ali are contesting for the seat, which fell vacant in the death of Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Maidul Islam on May 11.
