Two alleged drug peddlers were killed in separate ‘gunfight’ with police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Kushtia and Chapainawabganj early Saturday.
In Kushtia, Shamsuddin Syam, was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Bheramara while police recovered a one shooter-gun, 2 rounds of bullets and 500 pieces of yaba pills from the spot.
Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bheramara Police Station said that on information that a gang of robbers gathered for drug trading, police conducted a drive in the area around 3am.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the ‘drug traders’ opened fire on them, forcing police to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, he said.
The gunfight left Shamdsuddin injured with bullet. He was then taken to Bheramara Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, he added.
In Chapainawabganj, another suspected unidentified drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with RAB at Mollan Maath of Sadar upazila at 1.30 am.
RAB-5 deputy commander Abu Khayer said that a team of RAB went on drive against drugs at 1.30am. Sensing presence of the law enforcers at Mollan Maath area, drug dealer’s opened fire on RAB, forcing RAB to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
Later, one of the drug peddlers found death on the spot, he said.
