A court today sentenced a man and a woman to life term rigorous imprisonment for raping a college girl seven years ago, reports BSS.
Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 of Rangpur Md Zabid Hussaine handed down the sentence in a courtroom in presence of the convicts.
The court simultaneously fined each of the convicts Taka 25,000 saying in default they would have to suffer in jail for six months more.
The prosecution said the convicts are Tajkir Hossain, 32, of village Madarpur Khiyarchhara and his accomplice Dulali Akhter, 28, of nearby Khiyachara village under Mithapukur upazila here.
Dulali was a third year (honours) student of Rangpur Government College and resided in a female students’ mess in Lalbag Khamarapa area in the city.
But, Tajkir frequently proposed the victim college girl, a third year (honours) student of Rangpur Carmichael College, for love. The girl refused.
Dulali called the victim girl at her room in the mess on December 21, 2010 when all other female students went home during winter vacation. Tajkir raped her.
The victim girl filed a rape case with Rangpur Kotwali Thana against four persons, including Tajkir and Dulali.
After investigation into the case, Investigation Officer Sub-inspector Nazrul Islam submitted chargesheets to the court against Tajkir and Dulali on March 7, 2011 when the trial began.
After examining witnesses and evidences of the case, the court found Tajkir and Dulali guilty and pronounced the verdict today.
Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Rafique Hasnine appeared for the state while senior Advocate Abdul Haque Pramanik defended the accused.
