The students, teachers and guardians were allegedly attacked by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists at Shaheed Minar in the capital after holding a protest programme demanding release of quota reform leaders on Sunday.
Some of the students were injured and some others teachers assaulted during this time.
BCL leaders and activists also allegedly beat some of journalists when they were performing their duties.
Agitator teacher Associate Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism department of Dhaka University Fahmidul Haque said, BCL foiled our peaceful programme. They also beat the students and teachers.
We informed the matter to DU proctor but he didn’t take any step, Fahmidul alleged.
The quota reformists took to the streets on February 17 and continued the protests for reducing quota in government jobs to 10 per cent from the existing 56 per cent.
In the face of protests across the country, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced in parliament on April 11 that the quota system in government jobs would be abolished.
The platform began the indefinite strike on May 14 as the government failed to meet their deadline for the publication of a gazette notification abolishing quota system as was announced by Prime Minister.
