The Tigresses once again made the nation proud as they confirmed their participation of ICC World Women’s T20 tournament crushing Scotland by 49-runs in the second semifinal of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier at Amstelveen on Thursday, reports BSS.
Chasing a 126-run winning target set by Bangladesh, Scotland found the chase stiff and they were eventually restricted at 76 for 7 in 20 overs.
Only two Scotland batters -Sarah Bryce (31) and Kathryn Bryce (21) – were able to reach the double figure. Ruman Ahmed and Nahida Alter were the pick of Bangladesh bowlers as they shared two Scotland wickets conceding 10 and 16 runs respectively.
Earlier, Bangladesh women’s cricket team scored 125 for the loss of – wickets from their stipulated 20 overs.
Despite a tight bowling display by the Scotland bowlers, the two tigresses openers — Shamima Sultana (22) and Ayasha Rahman (20) gave Bangladesh a solid start contributing 51-run for the opening stand.
Middle order batsman Nigar Sultana top scored with an unbeaten 31 runs while Sanjida Islam (19) and Fahima Khatun (15) in the end helped Bangladesh to post a decent total after they were forced to bat first by Scotland.
Priyanaz Chatterji was the most successful bowler as she captured two Bangladesh’s wickets conceding 17 runs.
The winners of the semifinal will go in the eight-nation Qualifiers event will join Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and hosts West Indies in the tournament, scheduled to be staged from November 9-25 in the Caribbean.
