Light to moderate rain likely over country

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes are likely to occur at many places over the country in 24 hours as of 9 am tomorrow.

It may occur at most places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions and at many places over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country during the period, said a met office press release here today.

Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country during the period, the release added.

According to the release, the trough of monsoon axis runs through Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan, West Bengal and Assam across northern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends to Northeast Bay. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay.

The maximum temperature was recorded 35.6 degrees Celsius yesterday at Jashore and today’s minimum temperature 24.3 degrees Celsius at Kumarkhali in Khulna division.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded 170 mm at Sitakunda in Chattogram division.

The sun sets at 6:50 pm today and rises at 5:16 am tomorrow in the capital.
