Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth from the Asian region for a two-year term that begins from July 2018, reports BSS.
Bangladesh was elected on consensus basis in a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth held at the Commonwealth Secretariat last week, said a foreign affairs ministry press release.
The diplomatic efforts of Bangladesh and its active participation in and contribution to the Commonwealth brought this happy outcome and honour for the country, the release said.
Commonwealth Executive Committee consists of sixteen members of which eight are highest contributing member states and the other eight are elected from the four regions.
