ACC conducts surprise drive in Shahjalal airport

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday conducted a sudden drive in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital after receiving a complaint of passenger harassment over its hotline 106.

About the drive, Director General (admin) of ACC Mohammad Munir Chowdhury said, “Image of the country is being hampered by incidents of (passenger) harassment and corruption in the airport. So, we need to handle such incidents with iron hands.”

“We conducted a drive at Shahjalal airport around 12noon on Wednesday after receiving a complaint that an Indian national was harassed by a security man,” deputy director (public relations) of the ACC told BSS.

The security man of the airport also demanded money from the Indian national, he also said.

After receiving the complaint, the ACC sent a three-member team led by assistant director Mainul Hasan Rawshani to Shahjalal airport and found the allegation true after scrutinizing the closed circuit camera televisions (CCTVs).

The ACC team informed the customs commissioner of the airport of the matter and he (commissioner) assured them of taking action against the security man.

He (commissioner) also assured the ACC team that his mobile number will be shown at each of customs checking points in future as the people could call him over the phone after facing such harassments and thus the airport services will be made free from all sorts of corruption and irregularities.
