Stocks witness a tedious session

Stocks witnessed a tedious session on Tuesday as all indices on the country’s two bourses- the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-gained marginally on the day.

Turnover, a vital indicator of the market, rose to Tk 635.79 crore, up by 31 percent from previous session’s Tk 485.90 crore on the DSE. The bourse traded a total of 11.11 crore shares on the day.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, gained 3.66 points to settle at 5344.96. Two other indices followed the same trend as DS30 index, comprising blue chips, witnessed a fractional gain of 0.61 point to finish at 1942.47 and DSE Shariah index advanced 1.42 point to settle at 1240.76.

Out of 340 traded issues, 145 closed higher, 144 closed lower and 51 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Top five gainers on the day were Western Marine Shipyard, BD Autocars, Monno Ceramics, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and Asia Insurance. Zeal Bangla, Ambee Pharma, Apex Foods, Kohinoor Chemical and Asia Pacific Insurance were the top five losers.

In the port city, CSE also closed upward with the CSE All Share Price Index –CASPI – advanced 30.71 points to finish at 16484.25.

The gainers dominated the trading as 118 issues closed higher, 84 lower and 22 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

CSE traded 49.92 lakh shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 17.65 crore in turnover.
