Army to be deployed in upcoming general polls: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Wednesday said that army personnel would be deployed across the country in the upcoming parliamentary polls.

He came up with the announcement while addressing a workshop program at the Barisal Circuit House on the day.

Huda said: “The army will be deployed in the upcoming national election but not during any of the three upcoming city corporation polls on July 30.”

Addressing the allegations of irregularities in the recently held Khulna City Corporation Election, the CEC said: “Only three of the polling centres faced allegations of irregularities during Khulna city polls.

“Once the EVMs are introduced, polling centres will not face such issues again.”

Nurul Huda added that the commission will continue to make a serious effort in the future to hold free, fair, and inclusive polls.

The workshop was organized by the Election Commission for training of Barisal district and upazila level election officials on the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
