Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the drives against illegal drugs would be continued until the drug abuse stops fully in the country, reports BSS.
“The drives against illegal drugs are going on to save the young generation from harmful impacts of drugs as they (youths) are the future generation of the country…The government would not bow down to any external pressure over the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, he said.
The minister came up with the remark while replying to a query from reporters after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony of the seventh package of Metrorail Project at Bangabandhu International Convention Center here.
Quader said the popularity of the Awami League government is increasing through the drive. As a result, BNP is feeling jealous and they are talking nonsense about the drive, he added.
Over the murder of Teknaf ward councilor Ekramul Haque, the AL leader said the home minister cleared the government stance to this end. If Ekramul is innocent, those who labeled him as drug peddler will be brought to justice, he added.
Quader said the anti-drug drive is going on and will continue until the drug issues are eliminated from the country completely.
Giving example of Narayanganj seven-murder case, the minister said no top officials of Rapid Action Battalion involved with the incident were spared.
The MoU was signed between Dhaka Mass Transport Company and Larsen and Tabru Limited of India to supply electrical and mechanical system for the Metrorail Project.
Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Hiroyasu Izumi, Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Secretary of the Road Transport Division Nazrul Islam, JAICA Chief Representative Takatoshi Nishikata and Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited Managing Director MA Siddique, among others, were present in the function with project director Aftab Uddin Talukdar in the chair.
