The screening of foreign films has been banned during the time of Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, Puja and Pahela Baishakh.
A three-member of Appellate Division of the Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Wednesday passed the order after hearing a petition.
The court also cleared screening of the Bangladesh-India joint venture films during the period.
On May 9, Selina Begum of Nipa Enterprise filed the petition with the High Court, seeking stay on imported film releases during festivals such as Eid, Durga Puja and Pahela Baishakh.
On May 10, the High Court issued a stay order on the release of joint production and imported films during festivals.
Later Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association president Iftekhar Uddin Nawshad filed a petition with Supreme Court seeking a stay on the high court order.
